Mobile Brake Repair: Done at Your House
Yes — a mobile mechanic can replace brake pads and rotors in your driveway in about 90 minutes per axle. Here's how Dash does it in Fort Myers.
Brake jobs are the second most common mobile repair we do in Fort Myers, right after batteries. Pads and rotors don't need a lift — your car just needs to be on a flat surface (driveway, parking lot, even a level grass spot in a pinch). The whole job runs about 90 minutes per axle, and you don't pay for a tow or sit in a waiting room.
Here's the actual process when we arrive: chock the wheels, loosen the lug nuts while the wheel is still on the ground, jack the axle up, support it on a jack stand, remove the wheels. Compress the caliper piston with a C-clamp, remove the caliper bolts, slide the caliper off and hang it from the strut (never let it dangle on the brake hose). Pull the old pads, pull the old rotor (sometimes needs a tap with a dead-blow hammer if it's rust-stuck — common on Florida coastal cars). Clean the hub face, install the new rotor, install new pads, slide the caliper back on, torque the caliper bolts to spec, reinstall the wheel, torque lug nuts to spec.
Then we do the part most quick-shops skip: bed-in the new pads. That means a controlled sequence of moderate stops from 35 mph down to about 5 mph, repeated 8–10 times, to deposit a uniform layer of pad material on the rotor surface. Skipping this step is the #1 reason new brakes squeal or pulse within the first month. We do it on every job.
What you need: a clear, level spot to park the car. Driveway, condo parking spot, office lot — all fine. We bring jacks, stands, lug torque wrench, caliper torque wrench, brake cleaner, anti-seize, fresh DOT 3 or DOT 4 fluid (whatever your car takes), and the pads and rotors for your specific vehicle. You don't need to provide anything except the keys.
What we won't do mobile: rear drum brake overhauls on cars older than 2005 (the springs and adjusters often need a press), brake line replacement that requires running new line through the chassis, or full master cylinder replacement on vehicles where the brake booster has to come out (rare, usually older European). For 95% of Fort Myers brake jobs — pads, rotors, caliper replacement, fluid flush — your driveway works fine.
Pricing in Fort Myers: front axle pads-only $150–$280, front pads + rotors $300–$550, rear drum or disc service $200–$450 depending on vehicle. Larger trucks and luxury vehicles cost more because of parts. We quote in writing before we start the work, and the quote includes parts, labor, fluid top-off, lug torque, and the bed-in test drive. No separate trip fee inside Fort Myers, Cape Coral, North Fort Myers, Lehigh Acres, Estero, Bonita Springs, Gateway, San Carlos Park, and Pine Island.
Frequently asked
How long does a mobile brake job take?
About 90 minutes per axle. Front pads + rotors is the most common job — done in about 90 minutes total in your driveway.
Do I need a flat surface for mobile brake work?
Yes. A driveway, parking spot, or level pavement is fine. We don't work on a slope or grass that won't hold the jack stands.
How much do mobile brakes cost in Fort Myers?
Front pads only: $150–$280. Front pads + rotors: $300–$550. Rear service: $200–$450. Trucks and luxury vehicles run higher. Quote is in writing before we start.
Do you bed in the new pads?
Yes. Every job. A controlled sequence of moderate stops to seat the pad material on the rotor — skipping this is why brakes squeal or pulse a month later.
